Principal’s Message

Rural schools are incredible places! This dynamic time of life is full of adventure and our students reflect this with energy and curiosity which certainly keeps all of us, on the staff team, fresh and on our toes!  It is a pleasure to be at Silver Creek School. Silver Creek (Home of the STARs) is a warm and welcoming school which includes students from Kindergarten to grade 8.

Silver Creek Elementary enjoys a beautiful BC natural setting in which to learn and grow. The playground at Silver Creek provides a forested area, tennis and basketball court, 3 playground structures, and a set of swings on 8.7 acres of land. There is a spacious soccer field that provides enough field space for more than one game to be played at a time and the Okanagan Regional Library is across the parking lot from the school.

Silver Creek Community Hall, Senior’s Centre, General Store, Post Office and Cemetery are all within walking distance from the school. Many Silver Creek families have lived in this area for generations. The school was built in 1976 and our school photos proudly line the hallways. The Silver Creek runs adjacent to the school grounds and the Salmon River is located within walking distance to the school.

We have four classrooms, all of which are multi-graded. The staff and community have embraced the benefits of multi-age learning and the student leadership which is reflected in the vibrant multi-age reading program. This peer mentorship program gives older students the opportunity to actively listen and support  younger students in their reading ands provides time for the older students to read to their little buddy, as well.

For special events and thematic learning days, such as Spring Break-Out, Indigenous Games, and 100’s Day we provide multi-grade experiences as well. This approach builds student leadership, a positive sense of community, and strong connections among students and staff.

The Silver Creek staff team works diligently to keep students safe, engaged and happy as they learn and grow! Please feel free to contact me at the office if you would like more information or need any assistance with items or concerns that arise throughout the year.

Kind regards to you and your loved ones,

Sydney Griffith, Principal
