2nd Annual K-12 Environmental Expo

Posted on 2026-02-06 21:44:18.792 +0000 UTC

A dedicated and diverse group of volunteers met with the District’s Environmental Advisory Working Group to learn about the upcoming 2nd Annual K–12 Environmental Expo, taking place at Salmon Arm Secondary on April 30th, 2026. Last year, more than 150 students participated. You can watch a short video from last year's Expo to get a sense of the energy, creativity, and hands-on learning students brought to their projects.

This year, mentors will support students exploring self‑selected environmental topics in categories such as Nature & Biodiversity, Agriculture & Food, Waste Reduction, Eco‑Friendly Transportation, Human Health & Culture, Economy & Entrepreneurship, and Create Your Own Adventure. The mentor group includes electricians, woodworkers, foresters, biologists, organic farmers, firefighters, beekeepers, former teachers, healthy‑food advocates, watershed specialists, and many others—an inspiring range of talents and passions.

The K–12 Environmental Expo is one of many initiatives advancing the SD83 Environmental Stewardship Action Plan, supporting healthy relationships with air, land, water, plants, and animals throughout our area.

We are still welcoming both mentors and students. Individual students with a project idea, or classroom teachers interested in supporting groups, are encouraged to join. Space is limited, and we ask that you express interest by February 27.

Students: To get involved, please contact your classroom teacher or school principal.

Mentors: Please contact Wayne Spencer – wspencer@sd83.bc.ca or Kim Fulton – kfulton@sd83.bc.ca
